So here it goes.

I've been wanting to a garter stitch scarf like hitchhiker or wingspan since they first strated to show up in the knitting groups I go to. Wasn't sure which, was leaning towards wingspan when I came across Drachenschwanz by Solway Hauptmann on Ravelry. The next day I cast on.

I love the curve this pattern creates. And it's so simple. The yarn is Cascades Heritage 150 Paints sock yarn in the military fatigues colorway.

Next, something for Knit Wits. This is a baby blanket I started sometime last year and now finally half way through. I'm determined to get it done now.

Didn't get to watch the opening ceremonies when I cast on since I was camping at the time.

I'm loving this yarn. It's Schaffer Yarn's Audrey in the Mary Walker Phillips colorway. It 50% merino wool, 50% silk. So soft and shiny and it's in some of favorite colors. The design is my own. Not sure at this point how it's going to turn out. It'll be a shallow shawl, triangle or half circle shape. I haven't quite decided yet.

So camping, yay, that was fun. Kind of. It was definitely one of the most memorable camping trips I've been on, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Every year at the end of July my family goes camping up on Priest Lake. Sometimes on the west side, sometimes the east, it all depends of what campground we can get into. This year was on the east side at Lionhead's campground. It's a nice campground, no hook ups, but free wifi, which is just weird. We camped there for the first time last year and it was enjoyable. They have a dog beach which is nice when you want to play on the beach with your dogs, and it also means I haven't been on the other part of the huge beach the campground has. What can I say, I like hanging with the dogs. Tripper and Cable are just so lovable.

Nice location, lots of wonderful family to spend time with, nice weather, only one problem. The neighbors.

Thursday morning I was woken up at 7am by someone yelling into a megaphone, in Russian. Yes, that right, Russian, in North Idaho. The campground was taken over on Wednesday by a huge church group which apparently were all Russian, and they apparently didn't see anything wrong with yelling into a megaphone at 7am in the morning. Or letting their kids run through our campsite thirty minutes later. I was pissed. I mean, it's one thing to making noise at 7 in the morning (when quiet hours ended) it's a completely other thing to be yelling into a megaphone at the hour, or any hour. The rangers came in and put a stop to it for us and the other patrons of the campground. They couldn't however do anything about the dirt bikes, but that wasn't constant so it wasn't too bad. It was the smell that was worse then the noise anyways.

Friday was the best day for me. Managed to convice the dad to go for a drive rather than go on his daily bike ride. We ended up driving all the way around lower and upper Priest Lake, something I've never done before but now would like to do more ofter. The area north of upper Priest Lake is gorgeous and Garnite Pass was quite the sight. We stopped at one point early onbecause dad saw some cedar he wanted to cut up into firewood. While he did that me and mom explored a bit. I found a large granite boulder that was just gorgeous. It had one section that was just white with little red spots of garnets in it. Too big to take home and couldn't bring myself to break off a chunk. Some things should be left as they are.

Mom walked around taking pictures of wildflowers and while doing so found a patch of huckleberry bushes that had ripe berries. The huckleberries aren't that great this year, most people aren't finding any, it's just been too wet this year. The patch we found though had plenty of berries. We picked enough for huckleberry pancakes for everyone in the morning.

When we got around to the other side of lower Priest Lake we stopped at Granite Falls. A beautiful fall that you can visit before heading up the trail into the Roosevelt Cedar Grove. We were the only ones there, which is weird. There's a campgroung right there which usually has one or two people camping in it but not this last week. We walked up to the see the falls from the lower vantage point. I've never seen so much water in that stream! And it's the end of July when the water is usually low. After the falls we headed back to the other side of the lake and camp, stoping for beer on our way through the town of Priest Lake.

Came home yesterday. The rest of the family stayed till today. My aunt couldn't get our site through the weekend so we had to come back early. Not that I minded to much. Camping's great but it does leave me really tired, and I really wanted a shower.

My birthday is Thursday and the sister will be getting into town late that evening. Looking forward to seeing her even if it's only for a little while before so goes on a week long bike ride with my dad. After that my attention will be focused on the fair. It's going to be chaos this year. They're switching over to registering entries online and getting people to change is going to be hell. Here's hoping we get plenty of entries despite the change, otherwise building 3 is going to look a little empty this year.

Garnet R. A couple minutes before she got back my cat Lindy came meowing and limping into the living room and I promptly freaked out. I got her to lay down and she was hissing and growling from the pain. I couldn't tell if her foot was broken or what so when mom came home we got Lindy in her pet carrier and took her to the vet.

The vet checked her out and then took x-rays of her leg to make sure there was no fracture. Thankfully nothing was broken but the vet still wasn't sure what was wrong. Lindy either sprain something or there was a blood clot in her leg. Eek! Blood clots are the worse. We were sent home with some painkillers for her and directions to give her some baby aspirin. She's already improved quite a bit and it looks like it was just a sprain. I got the design and chart drawn over teh weekend. I also did a bit of test knitting and really liked how the pattern's going to look in the yarn I picked.

It's going to be a sideways knit, shallow triangle shawl with a pretty edging and just plain stockinette for the main part of it. The yarn is a skein I got when visiting my sister in Rhode Island. It's Schaefer Yarn Company's Audrey in the Mary Walker Phillips colorway. It's 50% merino/50% silk and feels absolutely lovely. The picture came out dark so you can't see the colors quite how they are. The colors in it are black, pink , blue, gray, and purple. It's gorgeous knitted up. I can't wait to cast on during the opening ceremony of the olympics.

The other shawl is one that's been in my head for a while and I've finally got it down. I'm calling it the Gear Shawl for now and it will be my first circular shawl design.

I finallized all the design elements today, drawing up charts and figuring out the math and then I cast on. The yarn is an unknown knitting machine yarn my mom gave me. It's acrylic and I have no idea the yardage. It's a pretty brown though and is perfect for this design.

Saturday I'm off to Banff, Alberta, Cananda with the parents, aunt, uncle, and cousin. In Canada for Independence Day, but also Canda Day so I won't miss out on fireworks. Staying in a condo and I have no idea if I get a bed or what. The aunt, uncle, and cousin have their own condo. Somehow my aunt scored two free condos. She's always finding amazing deals like that. Won't be back till the 7th. Looking forward to going somewhere I haven't been before.

Garnet R.

It's over half way now, will probably try to finish it before Monday.

I've also bound off on the a shrug for Knit Wits.

I absolutely love the colors in this. The fur yar worked so well with boucle and variegated yarn. It's the first of many shrugs for Knit Wits.

That's all I've been working on recently. Mindless, easy projects to take a break before my next lace shawl. Which I should probably try to get started on sometime soon.

For Father's Day I went with the parents on a drive around Selkirk loop, which goes west into Washington, up into Canada and then back down into Idaho. I've always wanted to go around the Selkirk loop and was not disappointed. It's a beautiful drive through mountains, valleys, and at on point a ferry ride across Kootenay Lake. I got a few pictures, I didn't very many because I'm not much for taking pictures. I don't particular care for looking at things from behind a camera.
A picture a got when stopped just for the view of the lake.

We also stopped at this lookout where I got this picture of the valley.

After the ferry ride we stopped at this artisan crafts area that feature things like weaving, glassblowing at the such. We went in to the glassblowing and forge building. There was nobody currently doing either but it was nice looking at the beautiful stuff they'd made.
I ended up get a beautiful snowflake copper and glass necklace.

And I got these gorgeous buttons.
This weeks work in progress is a scarf I've designed and am knitting up for Knit Wits.

The yarn is Loops and Threads Snuggly Wuggly in the Silly Sprite color. This is my most favorite baby yarn to work with. I spotted someone making off with a couple of skeins of this color at last months Knit Wits meeting and was jealous I didn't get to it first. So, when a skein showed up at this months meeting I snatched it up.

The scarf designs idea is lacey diamonds bordered my solid diamonds.

I have to say I really like how it's looking, but the knitting's been slow going. Sport weight yarn does not make for fast knitting. Finally putting some noticeable lenght on it. When it's done I plan on writing up the pattern and selling it on Ravelry. See if I can make a little money.

I didn't get much sleep last night due to constant thunder. Then while doing the dishes I broke my Bailey's Irish Cream glass and cut myself on it. I'm going to go finish off that bottle of chocolate wine.

Garnet R. It's too gorgeous and perfect not to.

With the shawl out of the way I've been playing lots of Diablo 3 and working on Knit Wits stuff for my knitting. I'm to the last section of it. 576 stitches around. The chart for this part is 48 stitches wide and covers over 70 rows, even rows not being show since they're just knit.

Here it is on the needles. I tried to spread out the middle so you can see the pattern at the center.

And here's part of the section of just finished spread out a bit.

I've been enjoying working on it and the cat seems to like it as well. One knit while I was trying to knit Lindy jumped up onto my lap and curled up on the shawl and then shoved her nose into and fell asleep. It was very cute.

The stitch markers I was using for the shawl were annoying me. The yarn kept getting snagged on them so my mom was nice enough to make me some out some stone beads a got some time ago.

There's four round ones and four tear drop shaped ones. I looked them up and they're synthetic blue malachite that's been dyed, or something like that. Not something that occurs naturally.

The other project I've been working on this week is a crocheted stegosaurus.

That's the head there on the pattern. It should be adorable when it's done. Don't know what color it's spikes are going to be yet. I'll have to look in my stash for something that would look good, or find something at the next Knit Wits meeting.

I've also been working on the hoodie for myself. It's been my social knitting so not much work is getting done on it but I just might have the back done before the end of the month.

Spring has been just wonderful. The flowering plum and the wild plum have been absolutely gorgeous this year. We did get some really cold nights over the weekend, freezing the bleeding heart and the lilacs. One lilac is not going to bloom this year but the other too will. The freezing coincided with my mom buying plants for the deck, of course. Again this year she put Dahlia's in the boxes around the deck. They were gorgeous last year and the Moose didn't eat them. Here's some pictures of my favorites.
Now to get back to working on the Mystic Star shawl.Garnet R. Kimzeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00387802168932170658noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3229291550373373303.post-42596577528323085262012-05-06T18:49:00.000-07:002012-05-06T18:49:03.753-07:00The First Warm Day of MayThere was sunshine today. I went out to look at wildflowers. Lots of violets blooming, and strawberries, and there's a bunch of grape hyacinth down the hill from the house. And I didn't see any snow!

I finally caved and got a skein of the ruffle yarn that has been so popular amongst knitters lately. I have made a scarf, which is being modeled here by the wonderful Miss Chenille.

The yarn is Marina Multi by Rozetti in the Galaxy colorway. Loved how it knitted up, didn't enjoy knitting it. This stuff is a pain to work with. You have to spread ite out as you knit, inserting the needle into the loops along the top to make your stitches. You're basically looping the loops together, so stitch size is dependent on the size of the loops and not the needles you used. I followed the pattern on the label for the yarn which called for size 9 straight needles. I recommend using circulars, if you can. With the straight needles the stitches kept wanting to come off the needles and the needles kept getting caught in the already worked ruffles of the scarf. Definitely a yarn you need to watch your stitch count with. Only eight stitches to do the scarf but do to the tendency for the stitches to fall off the needle I kept losing stitches and having to stop and find them again. I also at one point picked up an extra stitch. At least with so few stitches it's easy to tell right away if you've got the wrong number.

Overall I say avoid it if you can, but if you really want to make a ruffle scarf (or need a quick knit for a mother's day present) now would be the time to do it. With the current popularity everybody and their mother is making this stuff and their are plenty of options out there. You're bound to find one you like.

On Friday I bound off the Spring Tulips Shawl and today I blocked it. I must say it came out quite beautiful.

Here's a picture of it before blocking.

It 56" along the top edge and wearing it the point hits right at my butt. Very comfortable and delicate feeling. I'm really happy with how it turned out. You can see the tulips a little better in person, and on the wrong side, and when it's held up to the light. Overall that part turned out better then I expected, you can definitely see the tulips much better then while it was on the needles.

Originally I was going to write up the pattern but the more I think about it the more work it sounds like. I didn't keep any notes while I worked on it, just have the chart for the tulip and the number of stitches and rows for each rectangle.

I should note an interesting thing happened while I was working on the triangles along the top edge. The triangles are all almost identical in their color placement. Seemingly completely random color placement in the whole shawl and then it patterns along the top.

While blocking the shawl I also blocked the elephants parts that have been in my knitting bag for months.

I want to take a picture of this one sitting in the flowering plum while it's in full bloom, and the flowers are starting to open on the tree. Time to get this elephant together and without any shawls hanging over my head I should have no problems getting this done. Unless I keep procrastinating on it because I don't like sewing.

Aren't there like sewing gnomes or something that will do it for me if I leave a bowl of milk out, or something like that. I suppose if there were my cat would catch and kill them before they got any work done.Garnet R. So I did. Never made one before so I looked up some patterns and the basic construction and made up a pattern. Then I decided to make fingerless mitts to match. One is done.

Only one skein of yarn to make the set. Will have pictures of hat and finished gloves either tomorrow or wednesday.Garnet R. Technically it's the first design I came up with. Meet the Spring Tulips shawl.

Yeah, I know. Tulips? What? This yarn is quite loud. It's 100purewool.com's merino lace in the Happy Colors color way. Definitely happy colors, aren't they. Not colors I usually like but I loved this skein of yarn the moment I saw it. The colors said to me tulips, which are my favorite flower. At the time I had just learned entrelac and had come across Jane Araujo's beautiful entrelac shawl Dianna. I wanted to do something like it but with a tulip lace pattern instead of leaves. I couldn't find a tulip stitch pattern that I liked to I eventually took some elements from a couple I did find and continually adjusted the pattern till I got something I liked.

Here's a close up.

You can kind of see the tulips. Admittedly, this is not the right yarn for what I had in mind, but I think things will look better once it's blocked. If not I'm fully prepared to knit it again in a solid color for the pattern.

Here's a close up of just one square.

You can definitely see the tulip here, so that gives me some hope that everything will turn out okay.

Starting back up on this shawl wasn't exactly easy. I haven't been working on it till now because I caught my cat, the yarn eating terror, chewing on the yarn. She managed to chew right through where the ball was connected to the shawl. I shoved it in the drawer and tried to forget about it. Spring time and the craving for bright colors that comes with it had me pulling it back out. And finding out that the yarn had been chewed through in several places on the ball. Dozens actually. Not the work of the cat. Possibly a mouse (brought in by the cat) or moths (more on that in a bit). Thankfully whatever chewed on it hadn't chewed a hole into the ball, just kind of chewed around on the outside of it, so I just unraveled it, removing the smaller bits and rolling the bigger sections in balls incase I need them later. Eventually I reached a point where it seemed like there were no more chewed sections. I think I'll have enough to finish it. I was thinking I wanted to put a border on it, but I might not have enough for that. Probably going to knit a second shawl for writing up the pattern anyways so I can include a border.

Now about them moths. Me and my dad have some brewing stuff that we keep in a purple plastic box my mom provided for us. A couple weeks ago mom was baking and ran out of sugar and went to pull out the bag of sugar that was in the box only to find out it was full of moths. The kind of moths that eat wool. Needless to say, the sugar was no good, along with pretty much everything else in the box. We cleaned it out today and discovered there's holes in the handles for the box so now we know how the moths got it. And that also means a bunch probably got out as well. Gonna have to go through all my yarn now to make sure the moths didn't get at any of it. Nasty little buggers.

So the stuff I knitted for AK Kerani was in a fashion show this last weekend. I should get pictures from it sometime soon so I can share them with everybody I know.

And, that's it form me.

For now.
Garnet R. Kimzeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00387802168932170658noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3229291550373373303.post-30917228678003776152012-04-18T16:29:00.001-07:002012-04-18T16:30:41.314-07:00WIP Wednesday: Things for me!First, I'm going to start with some finished objects.

The lace shawl for Knitivity is done and is now being test knitted. It came out just beautiful.

Calling it the Butterfly Wings Shawl.

Next up, I finished my assignment form AK Kerani with just enough time to send to my boss before this last Sunday. These items will be appearing in a fashion show this weekend and I should get some pictures from it. The shawl and red scarf are my own designs.

Now onto the work's in progress. Stuff I'm making for me.

The first is a lace shawl. The pattern is Mystic Star Shawl by Anna Dalvi and the yarn is Claudia Hand Painted Yarns Silk Lace in the aubergine color way. Gorgeous yarn and it's 100% silk. Bought it with the money I made from working at the fair last year.

Not the best photo. My camera wasn't cooperating. I started it a while back then put it to the side while I worked on the finished objects up above. Picking it back up again came with a headache. I'm not sure what happened but after knitting four rows I found myself with one extra stitch and while I was tinking back to find where the mistake occurred I came across two dropped stitches. Fixing the dropped stitches took me back two rows before where I started that day. Overall progress: -2 rows. The next day started out awful with extra stitches popping up again (too many yarn overs) but then went fairly smoothly the rest of the day. Today started with a missing yarn over but there have since been no major mistakes. Hopefully things will continue this way and it won't give me anymore problems (Ha!).

Next up is a hoodie I'm making for myself. This is the back, I'm to the point of shaping for the armholes.

The pattern is Zig Zag Hoodie by Cheryl Beckerich and is in the January 2011 issue of Creative Knitting. The yarn is Berroco's Pure Merino Nuance, which I made my first sweater out of in blue. This yarn is very soft but split's real easily. I'm finding it a lot easier to work with now that I'm more experienced and have some nice lace needles (Chiaogoo Red Lace needles sizes 6 and 7, and I'm using 3's on the shawl, love these needles!). The stitch pattern is easy to follow and I've been doing the cables without a cable needle for the first time.

I had made a hoodie for myself a couple years ago. The Central Park Hoodie in dark purple Cascade 220. Worked on it for a good part of the year and then it didn't fit (gained a bit a weight and my boobs went up a whole cup size while I worked on that hoddie). It's now sitting in my room still waiting for the buttons to be put on it. My mom keeps coming up with suggestions on what to do with it, but I just want to keep it. Maybe one day I'll lose enough weight to wear or maybe it will stay in the bottom of drawer until I have kids and pull out and try to get one of them to wear it.

It's a rainy day and I had wanted to get the rest of the yard work I started over the weekend done, but no such luck. I guess I'll go get my inside chores done, then back to work on the shawl!
Garnet R. Kimzeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00387802168932170658noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3229291550373373303.post-90774936396549638032012-03-28T17:39:00.001-07:002012-03-28T17:40:07.416-07:00WIP Wednesday: First AssignmentBack in February I got a job as a knitter and designer with AK Kerani, an online fashion company. It's just a start up so there hasn't been much work but I've finally begun on my first assignment. I'm knitting three items for a fashion show. One is my own design, the Red Rhody Scarf, which I made while visiting my sister in Rhode Island. Another scarf is an AK Kerani design and then I've been given free reign in making a shawl.

I'm enjoying working on this shawl.

The yarn is Loops and Threads Impeccable. It's my first time using this yarn and I really like it. It's nice and soft and doesn't split easily and the colors are gorgeous. The pattern's just a basic triangle shawl with stripes of stockinette, a lace mesh, and garter stitch.

In non knitting news, last night I tried to get a better look at a dark spot on my cat's chin, trying to determine what it was. The cat went ballistic when I pulled her into my lap and tried to look at the spot. She started to claw and bite me and it felt like one of her claws got caught in my skin at one point. It was painful and I'm surprised I didn't bleed more then I did. After I let her go she jumped up onto the cat tree and kicked the other cat off, and wasn't nice about it either. I locked her out of the bedroom for the night. She was much nicer to me when I let her back in in the morning.

Here's a picture of said cat being cute and cuddly while I was working on a baby blanket for Knit Wits last week.
Made for Amigurumi Challenge's first contest. The contest is to customize a pattern, in this case one for a rabbit. I added tentacles to the side of it's face, gave it multiple eyes and stitched the radioactive symbol on it's body. Done in a nice glowing nuclear green. I had too much fun with this.

Our dog wants this little thing so bad. She just loves small stuffed animals, so I may make her a little bunny to call her own. Maybe then she'll stop stealing my cat's crocheted mouse.
The Knitivity Shawl is done. I've gotten the charts done for the pattern but still need to type up the rest of it. I also haven't been able to get a decent picture of it.Garnet R. He may have forgotten he was going to send me yarn but a quick reminder and the yarn came in the mail two days later. I immediately started working on the shawl. First I did a gauge swatch and then I started test knitting stitch patterns. Then there was a brief stint with google translater to try to figure out what part of a german pattern was for the edging. I eventually figured it out and now I don't even think I'll use that edging. I'm sure I'll use it in something else, it's a beautiful edging pattern.

I did one and a half days of test swatching before I decided to just start the shawl. It's a half circle, which I've never done before. The beginning of last week I started a circular shawl for myself and I liked the construction of it so much I wanted to try in just a half circle, not wanting to have to start in the middle of another shawl after the hour or so of trying to start the circular shawl.

I'm now at 193 stitches and row 82 and I'm loving how it's looking.

After the next increase row I'm going to do three repeats of the stitch pattern then put the whole thing on a lifeline, take it off the needles to measure the size and then decide what to do from that point.

I should probably start typing up the pattern as I have it so far, and find out how to make the charts it will need. When it's done it will be available through Knitivity and I'll let all of you know when that is.
I got ten skeins of Baby Bee Sweet Delight on a trip to Hobby Lobby. The colors were called chocolate, teddy, sweet mocha, little princess, baby camo, sage, meema's blue, and blue baby camo. I knew I wanted to make a blanket, a striped blanket. The next part was finding a pattern. I looked all over ravelry and couldn't find one I liked completely. I found two that inspired me. The first being the Weevera Blanket by Katie Benedict. I liked the idea of different textures with each stripe, but I wanted more connection between the different stripes, and it didn't work with the variegated colors I got. The second was Rainbow Lattice Baby Blanket by Rachel Murray. I love this blanket and I especially loved the lattice pattern, but it didn't quite fit what I wanted. I didn't want to have to do any stockinette and the lattice pattern wouldn't look good in the variegated colors.

I ended up deciding to combine ideas from both. Instead of a different texture with each stripe I decided to stripe the stitch patterns as well as the colors. For chocolate and brown I decided on seed stitch. The variegated colors would be a simple slip stich pattern that they would look good in, and the lattice pattern for the solid colors.

Slip stitch pattern

Lattice pattern

Next was figuring out the order the colors would go in. I'd start with chocolate, next would come sweet mocha making the transition from brown into the solid pink stripe and then the stripe of teddy which would lead into the green section, chocolate again, then the blue section ending with teddy. First I though about doing one stripe with each skein of yarn, a total of ten stripes. I didn't like the thought of having two different browns at either end. Their needed to be symmetry. So I'd have to repeat all the colors a second time, in the same order but the brown between the sections would be different. Just repeating the pattern again would have a pink section on one end and a blue section of the other. Again, their needed to be symmetry. The decision was made to go backwards through the colors so I'd have the blue sections in the middle and the pink sections on either end with the green in between. Their'd be a stripe of teddy to mark the middle, and their'd only be three stripes of teddy but that wasn't a problem. A total of 19 stripes.

The next step was figuring out what size I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be about 44" across so I figured out my gauge and with some simple arithmetic, taking into account the necessary multiples of stitches for all the stitch patterns to work out, I calculated how many stitches to cast on. I knitted the first stripe of chocolate ending after I used up about half the skein. It ended up being 32 rows which was about 3.5" in seed stitch. From this I figured the blanket would be about 66" long. A good size. Each stripe would be 32 rows, which worked out great since the stitch patterns had row repeats that fit nicely into 32.

Thus I started on a wonderful knitting adventure in May of 2011.

The first three stripes went quickly, the excitement of starting the project fueling me on. The green section was slowed down by trips and the heat of the summer. Things continued to move slowly with the fair taking up my time in august and just wanting to work on something different.

Disaster struck in October. I was over half way through the first of the solid blue stripes when I discovered I'd messed up the pattern at the beginning of the stripe and I had to take the whole thing out. The blanket went into time out for a bit after that. But I finally took a picture of my progress.

Eventually I was able to pick it back up and finish both blue sections by the time January started. Mid January I took a trip to the east coast to visit my sister. I took the blanket with me, along with the yarns for the green section. I managed to get the green stripes done and started into the last of the teddy colored stripes. The rest of the blanket went quickly after that the excitement of almost being done making it the only thing I wanted to work on.

I was at Yarnies, my favorite knitting group, when I knitted the last row before the bind off. I was slightly tempted to bind off there even though everyone had left but figured it could wait until I got home. No need to rush the momentous occasion. I bound off the blanket a couple hours later.

February 9, 2012. Bound off the blanket about nine months after I casted on.

It was unbelievable. But things weren't finished. Ends needed to be woven in and the blanket really needed to be blocked.

Blanket before blocking

The seed stitch stripes were all puckered, the sides curled in, and the corners weren't square. Space for blocking it required moving furniture around in the living room and then laying down a sheet to keep the blanket clean. I used all of my blocking wires except the two for doing curves. My mom helped me pin it out and showed me how the square the corners so it would look all nice and purty.

Blanket pinned out

I steam blocked it, since it's acrylic. I couldn't believe it when I pulled out the blocking wires. It was done. I now had a blanket that I knitted with my own two hands. Not only that, but it was my own design, the first one I ever endeavored to do.

February 10, 2012. Blanket finished. Final size 55"X67". The cat approves.

Tomorrow I take it back to Yarnies to show it off to my knitting friends. Then it's time to start writing up the pattern. It will be free so that others may take the journey to make a similar blanket for themselves.

So, I'm almost done with the blanket I've been working on since last May! Excitement! It'll be nice to have such a big project done, so I can start another one. Get project done so you can start a new one. It never ends. This is a good thing. Really want to pull out my straight fours and start another elephant.

So my mom got a new dog. She's a really pretty german shepherd and husky mix. Her name is Cable and she's scared of me. Which is somewhat weird since she met me first. But then, Morgan was afraid of me when we first got him, too. Starting to make some progress with her. She'll now come up to me when I offer her food. Still won't let me pet her unless mom's there and holding on to her.

I don't think there's much else for me to talk about. Oh wait. I started reading a book last night that's a steampunk novel about superheroes. Haven't read that much of it yet but it definitely seems like it's going to be a really fun read.
